My windhshield is cracking. It's just one crack coming from the top. Do warrenties usually cover this? I don't think think that crack is due to outside causes because it starts at the edge (it goes under the rubber) and it is working its way down. I would hate to call the insurance company b/c that means I will have no car for a day (you have to let the adhesive dry before you drive). Atleast if I bring it for warrenty work, the dealer will give me a loaner.

I've had windshields replaced at work and drove home. You won't need a loaner

Go thru insurance and have them replace it at work/home. I believe them even come out on saturdays.

I replaced my windshield for free through my insurance company a couple times because a crack. I don't remember them ever saying to wait a day to drive. They even drove to my house and did it while I sat there drinking cheap beer BSing with the guy. They might of said it and I just forgot.

It depends on where the crack starts.

I used to work for both Toyota and Lexus. If a crack started behind the weather stripping (meaning there is no way a rock chipped it), then it was covered under warranty. Glass can have defects and can be damaged during installation just like any other part of a car.

Read your warranty? Call? Whether or not warranties usually cover this or not doesn't matter. Find out for sure.

how much do windshield replacements cost? I've got a fairly large crack in mine and I'll have to bite the bullet at some point, but I've been putting it off (crack was too large for a repair place to stop back when it happened. rock got thrown up by a dump truck I was behind on the highway).

I don't know about the warranty covering it, but it may be free to replace if the warranty doesn't cover depending on where you live. (OP's profile says Alberta, US which isn't a lot of help. :)) In Florida replacement of the windshield is free regardless of your deductible, covered completely by your insurance company and guaranteed not to raise your rates for the claim.
