Do cable modems get outdated?

I've had optimum online for a while and I don't know if the cable modem is bogging down performance by now. Should I upgrade it? Thanks.

Hey Smartazz,

Cable Modems for Optimum Online

Yes, it could be outdated. Optimum Online now supports a speed of 15/2Mbps. Older modems only handle 10Mbps down. I had a SB4100 and traded in for a SB5100 to get the speeds. Don't worry its free. They might try to give you an old used modem that works with the new speeds but don't accept it. They gave me 2 bricked modems until I got this brand new one. Also, if you use a router you gotta make sure it has a 100Mbps WAN port on it. Older routers only have a 10Mbps WAN port.

I benchmarked it, it peaks at around 10mbps, thanks for the link.
