Over the holidays my parents wanted to goto a chinese buffet place for dinner ($14.95).

Now the only buffet places i've been to were the ones in Vegas + Soda was included.

i was surprised to see $1.95 for each person for soda.

Do buffet places you goto charge extra for soda?

Depends.

In my experience, the more expensive buffets normally do.

Old Country Buffet is one of the more popular national buffet places that doesn't charge for soda (at least around here).

I've never seen a buffet that didn't charge for the soda.

Some places, like Cici's Pizza is a pizza buffet for ~$3 to lure you in, but then they tack on ~$3 more for the soda.

Every one i have been to does.

went to a buffet yesterday. it was $10 per perosn, $3 per soda. we had a hour before the end of the time. they had 2 pizza's up when we sat down. it took them 40 minutes to bring out 2 more pizza's. i should mention there was 6 college boys waiting also. needless to say i didnt get any pizza. we managed to talk one guy into giving my daughter 2 slices he had on his plate.

the manager didn't care either. he refused to give me a refund.

Almost always, Vegas is about the only place that might not. Soft drinks are huge profit makers.

Most I've been to do, but a few chinese buffets don't. It's kind of annoying when they do solely because they never refill in a timely fashion.

Always. The price for the buffet does not include drinks. Or atleast I have yet to eat at one that did.

went to a chinese hotpot buffet and they even included tips and tax, and 3 plates of pork buns for free with the $25/head price. it made things simple.

$25 per person at a buffet and I wouldn't step foot in the joint. And when is over charging someone ok just because it made the bill simple to figure out??

Sure Charlie, charge me an extra $20 so I don't have to add :p

I think it's wiser to not charge for soda because soda fills up a person a lot quicker than someone drinking water. More soda means less eating and less eating = more profit from each customer.

That would be except it is in their interest to keep the food moving. The food has to stay hot and reasonably fresh or it's junk

It costs maybe $2 for the syrup and soda water to make each drink in the fountain; they make tons of money off it.

it's in NYC and it was a dinner buffet on a weekend, with reasonably fresh shrimp, clams and beef/lamb. $25 is not bad at all.

well, it wasnt disclosed at the chinese buffet we went to.

but apparently, based on the poll, it's common knowledge that soda's not included.

The best Chinese buffet in KC is run by Ecuadorians. $6.25 for lunch, drink included. Plus you get your own refills.

i usually only go to two buffets, a chinese one that charges for soda and brings the soda to you, and old country buffet, which just has the no charge machine and the tiny glasses.
