Do bank managers have a lot of power?

Someone I may have beef with is a bank branch manager and we happen to bank there too (large chain). Are they able to manipulate my account in any way without being caught/tracked?

Can they even view the account without my request?

I know sometimes people of such authority have to ask us if they have permission to review our account.

Highly unlikely if they want to keep their jobs.

I don't have banking experience however I know CPNI data is tracked extremely well.

they can probably view it, but not manipulate it without being tracked.

if you are concerned, move your money now.

Person that I know from my old bank was checking up on her hubby's ex wife's account because she kept claiming poverty. Somehow the bank tracked that and fired her.

No they don't have that kind of power to do something like that and get away with it, especially considering it's a big chain. Regardless, if you are even asking the question you should probably change banks, at least I would if I didn't trust my bankers.

They have the power to deny loans that the corporation would otherwise approve.

They do not have the power to approve loans not within the company guidelines.

Yup, wife is in banking. Everything is electronic so you'd have to have some serious skill to cover your tracks simply from just looking at a persons account. Depositing, withdrawing funds or otherwise fucking with will leave a trail that's virtually impossible to cover. Even then any fraud would be covered by the bank but I still wouldn't bank at a place where I didn't trust the bank manager.

It depends...

Some large banks have good processes which make stealing very difficult for a rogue employee - C$$$$. Others are not so good - C$$$$$$$.
Stealing your money electronically...is virtually impossible.
Stealing your money...by issuing cash to someone pretending to be you at your local branch...happens a lot more than you think.

Good luck proving you didn't cash it. The bank's fraud investigator does not have your interest at hand. The police are too busy, unless you have a slam dunk case. FDIC or NUCA doesn't cover fraud.

CAN they? Probably...just log into the system using someone else's credentials.

WILL they? Highly unlikely. Getting caught means getting fired...and even prosecuted.

It obviously depends on the institution and circumstances, but a manager in a large corporation is still just a peasant, which means they really don't have any power. They'd be taking a huge risk if they messed with anything. But could they do that should they to disregard the risk? Yep, surely.

Yea, everything on the computer is tracked and you can get into trouble viewing customer's accounts if you don't have a business reason to.

I know plenty of people who worked at banks, and OP, basically, you're fucked. Prepare for a long road of being poor. Just saying.

You have to be pretty high up in the banking hierarchy before you can get away with breaking laws. "Manager" just doesn't cut it.

I'm sure they could view it...but change stuff? Nope.

Sure they can. They could "accidentally" withdraw $5k from your account and cause issues or deposit a large amount for awhile and then "catch" their error later and fix it.
