Man - I hit an ATM up for cash about twice a week, and you'd think that one of these times, over the past 6 or so years, that the stupid thing would screw up and slip me an extra $20.....but no luck.

Anybody ever hit the jackpot?

I have used the ATM countless times, and it is always been accurate. Never too much and never too little.

Think about it. Odds are if it could make the mistake of hitting you with an extra $20, it could make the mistake of shorting you a $20 too. Be glad it hasn't screwed up. :p

I used to work at a busy bank and on a few occasions the ATM used to mess up but most of the time it was giving less instead of giving more

The software is mindlessly simple, the only time it could screw up is if the person loading it doesnt put the right values into the sytem after its loaded.

Yes I tried to withdraw 40 bucks. It said insufficent funds. I was like WTF? I had about 3k in my account so how can that happen. The next day I logged into online banking and it said I had made a 40 dollar withdrawal. I am disputing it with the bank.

It's very very rare.

I've used ATMs from 5 different bank over 10 years with thousands of withdrawals and it's never screwed up on me, yet.

YES

I asked one to spit out $150 and it gave me 7 $20 bills but not the $10 bill.

I called my bank and it took about 3 weeks for them to credit my account.

Yes. My parents attempted to withdraw $300 (the daily limit) from an ATM once. It gave them a withdrawal slip, but no cash. So they went to another ATM... Which said their daily limit had already been reached.

It took the bank several weeks to get it all straightened out. In the end they got their money credited back to their account, but they still don't trust ATMs.

I, on the other hand, live & die by electronic banking/ATMs. I go into banks maybe once every 6 months.

The ATM in the MU at my University was giving out $20 bills thinking they were $5 bills one time. Several people I know went and cleared out their bank accounts. That was a quick way to quadruple their bank accounts. I couldn't find my f@cking bank card that day. Punishment for disorganization.

Viper GTS - This is off topic but why don't your parents have a max ATM limit of $500 per day? I thought that was standard with most banks, apparently not. On the other hand I think my daily POS (Point Of Sale) limit is ridiculously high like $5,000

Ross walks into Safeway, buys a quart of Orange Juice for $1.50, uses the POS to pay with his debit card, it asks do you want cash back and I say $5,000 LOL

I realize that the software side of it is obviously pretty good, but it's crazy that even with the brand new bills that are so stuck together that they look like the grew right next to each other on a damn tree, we never get lucky...

Jeez, sometimes it's hard to separate those things with your hands!

I dunno, I use the same bank & mine is $300 too. Kinda annoying sometimes, I wish it was higher. Oh well.

My POS limit is $700 a day, which is awfully low too.

Thankfully my CC isn't fettered by such restrictions!

$5000 is a good number. $10000 trips the automatic government notification

<---had to fill out a bunch of forms to see $30k of my money in hundreds

Yep any cash transaction whether it be deposit/withdrawal/changing of bills that is $10,000.00 or more per day requires a CTR (Currency Transaction Report).

My GF had her card eaten by an ATM the other day. She just received her replacement card on Friday. She had been without her card for over a week and a half!

HEY, are we sharing girlfriends?!?!??

Once I tried to withdraw $40 and it only gave me $20.

But it also only knocked $20 off my account, so no big deal.
