? do ATI cards work with Intel mobo + cpu?

so will a EP35 DS3L and and a Intel cpu work with those new ATI cards?

You mean in Crossfire? (2 ATI video cards working together as one). The EP35 DS3L does not support Crossfire since it has only 1 PCI-E x16 slot.
If you just mean a single card, almost any videocard will work with any motherboard as long as it has the properly slots (PCI-E or AGP)

I just notice that the ati 4850 says PCI 2.0 x16 and the mobo doesnt have the 2.0 does that matter?

PCI-Express 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with PCI-express 1.0/1.0a slots. However, this doesn't always work perfectly, and some chipsets are more broken than others (VIA comes to mind). The P35 is generally fine with 2.0 cards.

Anecdotally, my 8800GT works fine in my P35 board.
