Do ATI cards still perform slowly on a NForce motherboard?

Title pretty much says it all. Back in the ol days ATI cards ran slower then hell on a NForce motherboard. Now I have my eye's on a 9700 Pro AIW to go on a A7N8X-D based computer I am building.

But I am a little skeptical about doing so because of the ATI/NForce problems in the past.

If not, well, looks like I'll get the card 🙂.

I'm having excellent luck with a 9800 Pro on my NF7-S R2. I can even run at AGP8X with Fast Writes ON. This is the fastest card I've ever had in this board (or any for that matter). I say go for it.

While I had some compatibility issues with older nF2 boards and UDPs with ATi cards I have had zero issues with the newer boards+UDPs+ATi cards and the performance reflected what benchmarks indicated it should be, HTH 🙂

Wow, these were quick replies 🙂.
Looks like I will go for it.

Before I jump into the deal, is it true a 9600XT can be flashed to a 9800XT? I am under the impression not because the 9600 has a 128bit core while the 9800 has a 256 bit. Not to mention more pipes.
But on another forum a guy keeps saying they are. I am a little skeptical...

It is completely untrue. The 9600XT cannot be flashed into anything else. Go for the 9700 Pro you initially talked about. Especially with it's AIW capabilities...

Good luck.

I've been running just that for nearly 2 years now. Its a stable combo for the most part(I also have a similar NV rig) with the ASUS MB letting me down with BIOS chip issues (1 RMA'd board, also couple of hotflash's to save the day. I think the 1 board caused all the issues) Beyond that, the ASUS struggles above 200FSB. Other than that, it purrs along 24/7/365. The ATI card + NV chipset works just as well as the NV card + NV Chipset.

Same here, except I'm on a revision 1.2 board. Very speedy system.
