heck yeah

amsoil all the way, haven't changed our 89 chevy truck for 2 years:D We abuse it too pulling our 24' enclosed trailer to the track every weekend of the drag racing season:D

it's getting changed here soon but the oil is rated for like 5 years but since the trailer factor we decided its best to get changed now

i hope you're kidding!

anyway, although it is very expensive, my Maxima runs a lot smoother with this stuff in it. i also get better gas mileage.

I heard people have experienced leaking problems with synthetic oil in theur vehicle because of it being such a thin oil.
The reason I don't use it in my Tercel :p
Plus, it's a Tercel :)

I use that castrol synthetic blend.... 10-30.. My truck seems to like it.. i'm looking for a good full synthetic that will work well..... I've herad a lot of junk about it.. my father in law says, "you never have to change your oil again" personnally I think he is crazy!

My newspaper buddy used it in his 280ZX for 300,000 miles. He used the 6/12 rule - change the filter every 6K and the oil every 12K. His ZX never needed oil between changes, and peeking inside the valve cover looked clean and bright.

I have no idea. I drop it off at the Honda dealer, say "change the oil and check everything", go back and pick it up. So awesome not having to work on your own car!:)

I used to use Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30, but after a lot of research I decided that modern conventional oils like Valvoline are so well made now that the internal rigors of a passenger car engine in good working condition will never exceed the capabilities of a good conventional oil. If we were talking a high-performance or diesel application, then I would probably stay with synthetic. But, I drive a Pontiac Bonneville. 20 years ago, synthetic oils had a real advantage over conventional, but the science behind conventional oil has vastly improved.

I'm not convinced that I need it. Most modern engines last quite a long time on non-synthetic oil with frequent oil changes.

I'd consider it if I had a turbocharged engine. I'd also use a turbo timer, which allows the engine to idle for several minutes after the key is removed. Probably overkill, but I am a strong believer in preventive maintenance.

Mobil 1 5W-30 right now, but I'm due and it's too cold for me to do it, so it's what ever the dealer uses.

In my POS Ford Contour I use the cheapest crappiest Wal-Mart/K-Mart/Whatever brand there is. I would use the used synthetic oil my brother changes out of his Miata if he'd let me.
My theory is that it's not the oil but how often you change it that really matters in engine life. Of course since I don't change it until every 6K miles or so I'm really stacking the odds up against me.

The leak issue is that synthetic oil & conventional have different "swell rates" ie the seals on your engine are affected & swell differently is you change from typically conventional to synthetic oil, particularly older engines.

Consumer Reports took a fleet of taxis, had the engines all rebuilt, ran them 100K mi, tore them down & carefully measured the wear, comparing all major brands of oil & conventional vs synthetic, the results were no difference in engine wear, also the mpg was unaffected in the test engines.

I used to change conventional oil like clockwork @ 3K intervals, then I went to synthetic for a few years, now I'm back to conventional oil & 5K intervals minimum, the conventional oil is that good nowdays, and the engines are a lot better.
