Do any SocketA motherboards have this...

Suspend to RAM:
AOpen Link
Tekram Link

I have this on my Asus P3B-F Slot1 board and use Suspend to RAM like a dozen times every day. I wanted to upgrade to a Duron and of the Duron boards I looked at (mainly the ECS K7S5A), I couldn't find one that seemed to have the Suspend to RAM option in the BIOS.

Is this a feature only for Intel CPU motherboards?

Looks like I looked at the wrong SocketA boards!
Maybe it's chipset-dependant...I was looking at SIS735/745 solutions like the ECS K7S5A.

Hmm, well the A7S333 is a 745 board though...

I have a K7S5A (using it right now, actually) and it has a recent BIOS, but Win98 doesn't give me a Suspend option in Control Panel > Power. I'm going to set the Suspend timer in the BIOS to 1 minute and see how it behaves... I'll get back to ya in a few here.

LOL, I set the Suspend timeout to 1 minute, rebooted, waited... system kept running. Then I switched ACPI-Aware OS to "no," rebooted and it redetected a ton of motherboard resources, rebooted again, waited... system kept running. I guess the K7S5A ain't gonna give no satisfaction if you want STR... sorry! :( The good news is that the A7S333 is not too much higher in price, if you wanted another option, or there are plenty of KT266A boards in the $70 price bracket now, and they give about 10% more performance per MHz than SiS735 does. Hope that helps some.

You need to enable the sleep modes in Windows too.

You can put the K7S5A into sleep mode by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace btw.

Peter, could you elaborate? Win98 is not offering a Sleep mode with the BIOS set for ACPI or non-ACPI (APM), and I am currently still in APM mode but she's not Sleeping with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

mechBgon,

If I'm reading you correctly, the latest BIOS of the K7S5A has the "Suspend to RAM" option in it. Is that right?
If so, all you need to do is enable it in the BIOS, and choose "Standby" from the shut down options in Win98. This will put your computer into Suspend to RAM mode.
I do this with my Asus P3B-F, and didn't have to change anything in Win98 to make it work. It's running in ACPI mode.
It's a great feature. Goes into STR mode immediately when I choose Standby, and takes only 5 seconds for me to get back to exactly what I was doing when I turn on the computer again.

Unfortunately, not so :( In the BIOS, I have these options:

ACPI Aware O/S (yes/no)
Power Management (enabled/disabled)

If "Power Management" is enabled, then the next options become accessible:

Suspend Time Out (enabled/disabled) <--- actually these settings are Disabled, 1 min, 2 min, etc, up to 30 min... my bad
Hard Disk Time Out (enabled/disabled) <--- ditto
Ring On Power On (enabled/disabled)
RTC Alarm Power On (enabled/disabled)

No combination of settings give me the "sleep" or "suspend" options in Win98. My options are Standby or Shut Down, and Standby results in the HDD and video powering off, but the system's fans remain running. To wake it up, I have to press a key on the keyboard, since the USB mouse is asleep.
