Do any PC DVD burners record video in real time?

There is no such thing as a burner too slow for this. It's just a question of whether your CPU can compress the data that fast.

yes it can, if you are talking about recording tv shows, leadtek tv cards has a feature called "Direct Burn" which will let you burn on DVDs.

I'm thinking more towards recording my DV tapes in real time, like direct from the firewire to DVD
 
It seems to me that at this point in time, it's all a software deal. The hardware can hack it. Just need the software to fit the application.

Check this out. Panasonic DMRT-3040. We just got one of this things at work and it is awesome. Kinda pricey ($850 or so) but freakin' awesome.
