i read an article in the newspaper where they compare the two. the conclusion is that the two are pretty much the same. Perhaps the only slight difference is MS Money allow more advance settings for expert user.

hehe,,, this thread is teleported :)

Money has too many ads... AND it tried to take over my computer, integrating itself into the browser and all. If you like that go for it... but I don't really need the program to watch over my shoulder all the time. I went back to Quicken.

Quicken is good, just the right balance of ease and intuition.

Long time user of Quicken (current Quicken 2002), it is very easy and intuition. Most bank support Quicken than Money but I am going to try Money 2005 to see if it is any easy with ease of not.

I have been pretty happy with Quicken for five years, until the last couple of versions. They want to take over every aspect of my financial life, and put it on the web?? Not bloody likely. They are now in the process of discontinuing all support for versions 2002 and earlier, in a vain effort to get me to buy the 2005 version. It'll be a cold day in hell.

We've used Quicken for years for personal checkbooks & personal credit cards. Tried MS Money, which is good too, especially its integration with Excel for graphs & reports.

On the business side we use Quickbooks.

I've been using Quicken for a several years (currently using 2005) and I'm pretty happy. For the past few years, I have been giving Money a trial run by trying to import my previous year's Quicken data into it but the process has been painful. Without an easy upgrade path, there's no way I could make the switch. But besides that fact, Money just seems too cluttered to me. It just didn't feel right. There were various specific pieces of functionality that it was missing that I didn't like (although I can't recall any of them currently) but in general Quicken just seemed like a better product to me. That being said, if you are just starting off, I really think that you could pick either of them and it would't really matter. The reviews I've read (like was mentioned before) all put them on roughly equal footing. There are pro's and con's to both products.

I use several excel spreadsheets that I have created over the years. I like having the control to have it do what I want, and display things how I want. I tried Money once, but went back to excel.

I recently installed MS Money 2005 and it's ok so far. I haven't used it long enough to praise or criticize it for anything yet.

Yup, my situation too. I think it's unfortunate that Money won't import Quicken.....cause I want to give Money a try. For as much as I like Quicken, I think it could do a better job with graphs. There are plenty of tables and charts but they neglect graphs, IMO. I smell some kind of conspiracy here.....MS Money not importing Quicken.....how difficult can it be? My guess is that Quicken won't import Money but I don't know for sure.

I actually posed a more in-depth version of the above question to one of the Microsoft representatives presenting here in Nyc a few weeks ago.

If one has ever attempted to use and/or read any Intuit-based application data, one would soon realize that the format is extremely proprietary and nearly impossible to do without the use of an Intuit-based product. As you might imagine, Intuit is less than forthcoming to Microsoft's requests that some sort of aid or explanation be given with regard to said format.

I can certainly respect the motivation Intuit has of course - even moreso with the upcoming release of SBA. As an end-user however, I generally dislike any situation where my data is stored exclusively in a proprietary format inaccessible by other applications.

The respresentative I spoke with stated that at least with regard to SBA, Microsoft in the initial release is forced to target mainly new users rather than converts from QuickBooks. Given the nature of the SBA product, and the fact that it is designed to essentially compete directly with an Intuit product, he said the ability to import and/or convert data is obviously a key component of their strategy, and is planned as either an after purchase download or a service pack.
