Do any of you really care about gay marriage?

I know I don't. I could care less what people are doing in the privacy of their homes, so long as it doesn't put anybody else in danger . . . obviously drinking a case of beer and going for a drive would apply. ;)

I don't want to know if you're for or against it - I want to know if you care about it in general.

The supreme court already ruled on what people can do in the privacy of their own home, the issue is people want government sanctioning of marriage between same sex couples.

I don't even see it as an issue of government sanctioning. It's about the benefits -- health, social security, pension, tax, etc.

I'm all for this idea. Maybe the population will stop increasing due to the fact that these couples won't procreate.

It's not my life, it doesn't affect me or my children, I could care less, and any deterioration of civil rights and equality puts me in the "go for it if it makes you feel good" catagory.

We are all God's children. If it offends God, He'll deal with it in His own time, in His own way. In the meantime, mortal man should leave well enough alone. It is not our decision to make.

It is waaaay down on my list of priorities. Somewhere below "do I care if Dave gets a job", but higher than "do I care a company tests shampoo on animals"

It affects me to know I live in a country full of bigots who are anxious to be taken advantage of by polititions willing to play to their bigotry. But like every other issue people create it really means nothing at all. Without our illusions we would know that we are in heaven and there's only love and nothing to sweat.

considering that every major civilization has allowed/sanctioned/accepted/encouraged homosexuality right before the fall of that civilization, yes i care.

if my health insurance costs go up twofold then I will certainly care then...other than that I care that the legal system insists on using the term marriage...unions for everyone.

Looks like 60% of the people on AT could care less one way or another, Moonie. Most people I talk to feel the same way.

I agree - leave the defination of marriage alone.

As also posted in one of the other threads: 'Marriage' is not a Christian or Jewish invention, the first laws on that subject were made by the ancient Egyptians, and their goddess Isis was the patron of marriage. So in fact you are defending a non-Christian institute.

Explicit examples please. Do you realize that the existance or acceptance of gays does not force non-gays to become gays?

The Egyptian empire allowed it already long before the marriage laws were made, so he must mean the short period of time of only a measly few millenia between them allowing it and the Romans invading.

I want to know what's happening in the bedrooms across America, particularly if there is "FILM AT 11"!!! :)

And, this trend will give Divorce T.V. a lot more spice.

Yeah, why wouldn't gays want to part of the horror that is American marriage?

On the other hand, maybe they'll show us straights how marriage SHOULD be. I only know two gay couples and they have been together in one case for over 18 years and about 7 years in the other. Who knows? Stay tuned....

I started a thread because I honestly don't understand all the hubbub. Apparently it looks like a lot of people feel the same way.

The hubbub, X-Man, is multi-faceted- the christian right whining about their loss of influence, the bushies pandering to their sentiment and also creating a diversion from other issues that really need more attention from the public.

On one side, there's the Bush record on the issues that actually affect America's wellbeing- and on the other, there's the so-called "problem" of gay marriage. Lots of people don't care in the sense that they feel that if gays want to marry, have at it, doesn't affect me in the slightest. I hope they do better at it than many of the straight folks do...

GWB Inc wants us to care, deeply, to the point of setting aside the fact that they should be swept from office for all the reasons that actually make a difference... Just another emotional sucker play, one more hand of three card monty...

The Funny thing is that AT is a Liberal indicator not a middle of the road or Conservative by any means. If ATer's don't care, and they are leaning toward the liberal side, I feel it is ironic that they don't care about the topic! LoL :D:D So if you don't care people why would you care if we didn't change anything?

You have to hand it to the party of character, though, that they would try to win votes on the back of bigotry toward gays. Very Christian of them. Oh wait, maybe that was a poor choice ot terms.

Some of your messages remind of the Conversations with God books ("Without our illusions we would know that we are in heaven and there's only love and nothing to sweat"). I'm a big fan of those books. Are you?
