Do any of you let your dogs sleep in bed with you?

If you do, do they tend to sleep all night? I have a miniature pinscher and would like to let her sleep in the bed but I'm afraid she'll try to jump off. My bed is pretty high and I'm afraid that she'll break her legs. I'm worried enough when I see her jump off the couch.

Still, I'd hate to see her jump off and hurt herself. A friend of mine has a chihuahua that broke one of her legs jumping from a high place.

My dog always sleeps on my legs, it's a total pain in the ass. It's a 60lb Dalmation-Black Lab mix.

It will just jump up and sleep on my legs and then I can't move, no big deal, I just kick it off get comfortable and it jumps back up, hehe.

Yeah mine sleeps with me.
Though he is a pretty BIG DOG, so I don't have to worry much about him busting anything when he jumps down. (except maybe the FLOOR).
Actually I guess he's not THAT big, about 85 LBS. But it's ALL muscle!

Spoooon - I'd only be concerned if you didn't have carpet with padding. Dogs aren't as agile as cats but I doubt you're in the top of a bunkbed, he/she should be alright.

Or do you have hardwood floors?

I've got carpeted floors. And no bunk bed for me. 😉 My mattress is a little tall though. She's only about 10 inches tall. I suppose it's just her front legs that make me worry. Minpins just have an interesting gait that makes me think her legs are fragile.

To put your fears at ease, put her on top of the bed, then call her off and see her jump down. You'll see that she lands on all four feet (hopefully), she should do just fine.

he hee.. thoght of a funny dog story
my buddy worked at 7-11, this guy came and got gas, completely drunk.. My buddy called the cop when he left, and reported a drunk driver. the dispatcher asked if anyone was w/ him. he said yeah, some dog. She said, "you shouldn't be calling his gf that" he said.. no there's a dog w/ him.
true story. i was there.
anyway. the story sounded better when i tell it. some things just can't be expressed by text. 🙁

When she jumps off the couch, she usually lands on her front legs first. Also, her legs sometimes pops. They don't seem to hurt her. Atleast she doesn't react if you rub her legs or anything. Think she'll try to land on all fours from the bed?

She's about a year old. We found her abandoned on a street in town. The way she behaves makes me think her previous owner abused her. She was really scared of people, but she's coming along nicely. She seems really fragile. I don't know how much of it is what her previous owner did to her or what. She doesn't act like other minpins. For instance, she doesn't really play. She prefers sleeping in our laps. She's not very energetic either. She's more like a cat than anything else. I don't have pictures, or atleast not yet. I might take some tomorrow with my roommates webcam. She's a cutie though. 🙂

edit: BTW some people just plain suck. I'm looking for another dog and going through some lists of pets at some animal shelters. I don't understand why people are cruel to animals. And then there are the animals rescued from puppy mills. I wish more people would get educated about the subject and stop buying pets at pet stores. :|

She's 1 year old? She may not be a pro at landing but it probably won't do any damage to her. You can either give it a try or worry every waking second.

Chihuahua sleeps on the bed and he is at least as small as a min pin.

But he is trained to sleep at the bottom of the bed not in my face, now if only the danged cats would learn that.🙂

Yeah, my dog sleeps on my bed. I don't mind it much except when he tries to sleep on top of my legs and pins me in one spot all night. He's not a real big dog, but he's not a small dog either. He's large enough to give me an aching lower back in the morning sometimes when he sleeps on my legs.

We have a 20 lb. Beagle, he sleeps at the foot of the bed. Jumping off is no problem either (unless there are hardwood floors) but it sounds like your dog is more fragile.

I'd say if you're that worried about it, don't let her come up there or train her to not to jump off without your help.

My little 3-yr old Pomeranian is about that tall... He jumps off my bed (2.5ft up) onto the carpetted floor all the time and lands on his front 2 feet first. He's fine, but weighing 10lbs as a small (& overweight) Pom does make quite a sound on the floor 🙂

Your pup should be fine, especially if it's carpetted. Oh and to answer your question, he sleeps in my mom's room on the floor in his little doggy bed, but never stays there the entire night. He's jumped up to my mom's pillow during the night too...

6 month cocker sleeps on foot of bed.

Spoiled (by my wife) 2 year old cocker uses the wife's head as a pillow half the time. When she pushes him off, he thens crawl between us, rolls on his back to sleep with all four legs up. At least neither snores.

Biggest problem is that he does not seem to realize that we got a bigger bed so he did not have to crowd.
