I just moved across Cary to my own apartment... when I was at home I had time warner cable & road runner cable modem... now that I moved I don't have time warner on my side of the street 
So that leaves me with DSL... Bellsouth is my phone company but their fastaccess page says I can't get DSL... dslreports showed me that several companies including speakeasy would provide me with DSL. I'm <9000ft from the phone company so distance isn't an issue. Also checked on that Sprint ION stuff but it isnt availble for another 45-90+ days.
I was paying $39.95/month for a 2mbps/384kb connection from RR... pings varied greatly and since I play games more than I download I figured DSL would be the way to go even tho it costs more... but I'm not sure about speakeasy and their NYC and Atlanta hops being the closest thing to me (how high would pings be).
Heh, since I can't get RR here I can probably kiss my 10-25ms pings on NCSU, Duke, and UNC CS servers goodbye
