Do any of you guys have any 91 Honda Civic/CRX with 6.5 inch mids in the doors?

I just realized today that on my 91 CRX the speakers in the door are ~ 5 inches diameter. I am still saving up for the Adire Audio Koda 6.1 system, but the set has 6.5 inch mids! How hard will it be to accomodate these mids? And how many of you run 6.5 inch speakers in your ~5 inch speaker holders (for the lack of a better word :confused?

How difficult will it be to mod the doors? Just a bit of cutting here and there, with some added MDF, right?

I was also planning to add MDF to raise the mid from the "speaker holder," because i heard that there is only 2.5 inches of clearance to the door. 3 inches is required for the Kodas to fit.

Go with a set that has 5" mids? You'll prolly end up modding the grilles as well to get them to fit.

Crap, i think i should have limited it to 91 Honda Civic/CRXs. I thought similar-year Hondas would have similar speaker sizes, but i guess not

i have a 91 civic dx sedan. i have new pioneer speakers in all 4 corners, but i can't remember the size.

4" or something? it's round

I could care less about the size, I'm set on the Kodas

I s'ppose it's all experimentation. I just want to mess around with my first install to get the feel of things.

-i just read through about 30-40 threads on soundillusions and some people have said that 6.5s *should* fit in the early 90s civics, yayyy! I might just have to add mdf, schweeet.

I think your first step is to actually look at the door panel and see how complex this mod is going to be. Figure out if you can keep the stock grilles or if you're willing to make up something. Personally, I'd just find something that fits your location. To me, I don't see the advantage to have 6.5's up front if you're gonna go with a sub anyway.

Stupid me, i removed the grille to look at the speakers today when i was installing the head unit, but i didn't remove the speaker to measure the diameter of the hole!

The CRX may be different from the '89 Civic LX 4-door I used to have, but that car definitely used 6.5 inch speakers.
