Most likely that salesman doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. 😛

Think about it - a Walkman has 45 seconds of anti-skip, and it runs off two AAs. Why would a DC-powered car deck - which has to absorb shock from road, potholes, etc - not have anything comparable? 😛

I am pretty sure they have buffer.. have you ever pressed on the pause button? How do you think they can instantly playback the music where you paused it at? All modern CD players have some sort of buffering mechanism but they are not advertised.

if it's mp3 then there must be some sort of buffering... but the thing is, if you bump the cd when it's buffering... the track buffered will come out weird

my philips expanium has 100sec of buffer at 128bit mp3's. Its a portable cdplayer. my old Aiwa CDC-Mp3 had no buffer, hit a bump and it would skip.

The focus HU in my car i think has a buffer, it hasnt skipped once.

It doesn't have to be advertised now...it was probably noted 10 years ago, should be common knowledge nowadays. You have to bump pretty hard for a CD to skip. Also, look at all those people with bass in their cars, I was hitting 153db and it never skipped a beat.

My sony deck doesn't appear to but i've never had any skipping while playing MP3's, I have while playing regular CD's though.

what does the buffer have to do with the pause function? it remembers what block it was reading before the button was pressed and returns to it after the button is pressed.

My dad has an Alpine head unit, and he says that it doesn't skip on MP3's, unless the track was recorded with errors (eg: original CD was scratched).

They don't have buffers unless advertised. My Kenwood will skip over ruff roads (stiff suspension setup doesn't help) but the changer seems to do a much better job. Probably just better mounting.

Well, my car rides a lot harsher then most cars out there. I think my solid mounting doesn't help either. Again, the changer is great.

I have a Pioneer DEHP4000 -- I don't think it has /ever/ skipped unless the CD was scratched..stiff-ish suspension and fast cornering doesn't faze it at all.
