Do any high-quality keyboards exist? I mean, for a nerd like me, why aren't there decent keyboards?

I'm really sick of my MS Natural Keyboard Elite - Yea, it's ergonomic but the stupid directional keys and home, end, delete keys are freakin' tiny.

I think I might upgrade to the MS Natural Keyboard Pro.. Its feel is much better than most keyboards I've tried (about the same as the Elite) but it has the larger buttons and two USB ports built on it.

Before I buy more Microsoft junk, is there anything better? I basically want ergonomic split-design with a nice feel to it. I sit on my ass in front of my computer all day and I'm sick of typing on this piece.

I second that opinion. Too bad I can't find any. That and the lack of a Windows key are it's only detractors. I used to use one at my old job because our test lab had a bunch of old IBM PS/2 PC's in a corner and the keyboards were going to waste. I wish I would have taken one when I left...

I haven't used one in so long I wonder how it compares to my Keytronics which I bought because it is like the old style keyboards.

Dell ships a keyboard that is probably one of the best keyboards made in the last 5 years. It weighs about 4 pounds (heavy in keyboard standards), and has a very nice, tactile(clicky) feel to it.

Doubles as a nice blugeon weapon in the event you need to defend your cubicle for any reason as well :)

I'm using one right now. I love these keyboards. The only thing there is a pain is removing the keys to get food out. They are very tightly attached.

You want a Northgate Omnikey. It's like one of those clickety IBM units, but even more beefy. You can typically find a handful of them on eBay, but be prepared to spend about $100 or more on a used one.

I use an IBM quiet touch keyboard. Keys are perfectly weighted and spaced. Hands down my favorite ever.

It's only like $20 at compUSA too.

Exact copy of IBM Model M keyboard. (Be sure to get the Buckling Spring version and not the rubber dome version.) Personally I just go to used computer outlets and scavenge for the original Model M's. Not hard to find and they can be picked up for $4.00-$6.00. It's not like the Model M is likely to wear out so a used Model M is as good as a new one once it's cleaned up. Not only that, but in emergency situations the Model M keyboards double as weapons.

ZV

EDIT: The OmniKey is nice (and still in production by CVT Inc.), but I don't think that it's $100 better than a new Model M, and it's certainly not $150 better than a used Model M.

well... i really dont like the fact that if ur a crazy person like me and uses their keyboard into the ground.... after a while the keys key really slick and feel icky... i dont like the fact that i have to buy a new one every few months..... the keys are worn down.... its sucks.... are there any keyboards that dont wear down or as easily... i have an MS internet keyboard pro... which offers all of the features the natural pro does except the split key design

Hey! I found one of those IBM click keyboards in our pc cemetary under a staircase behind two dead monitors quietly waiting for it's time to click again. Hmmm....

Duh, I didn't know you could get those Model Ms for so cheap. I can probably resell my Omnikey for the $100 I paid for it on eBay and get a Model M instead. Money is money.

I have a click knockoff, a BTC that looks exactly like it. Only problem is the old ass plug on it. I had this with my 486, so this thing doesn't have a ps2 port, it has some sort of circular, 5 prong male plug :( So i'm stuck with my Dell Quietkey with a crappy spacebar D:

They're getting harder to find in the used computer stores, but you can still find them with a little work. I was just saying that a new Model M clone is $49, while a new OmniKey clone is $149 (with the upscale OmniKey clone running $189). The OmniKey has great name recognition and it's overpriced because of it IMO.

ZV

EDIT: Search for "IBM Model M" on ebay, there are a number for sale in the $1.00-$15.00 range.

THat would be an AT keyboard. There are converters from AT to PS2. Try looking in the for sale forum.

Get off your butt and take a walk around the block. It sounds like you're starting to take yourself too seriously. Go smell the flowers and watch the birds. Pet a dog and kick a cat, then go back to your existence sitting in front of your monitor. You'll feel better.

i love my microsoft intellitype PRO...it's got a little curve going on the bottom with a slightly larger space bar....but the best feature are the hot keys on the top, cause i just control my winamp playlist without heading over to the mouse. :p

PS: haha i just realized i have a sleep button on this computer! that kicks ass!
