Do any 60 mm fan fit any heatsink? (forget Thermaltake)

I want to buy a new fan generating a greater airflow. In order to save $$$, I would like to keep my current Coolermaster (AMD approved, after all) heatsink. Will a Sunon 60mm, Delta or YS fan fit on it? Is it a "standard" or "try your luck" thing? Thanks.

Not all heatsinks take 60mm, or even any "standard-sized" fan. The RDJD heatsink/fan units use some unusual sizes like 52mm, I have an oddball fan around here from an Aavid heatsink too. Better measure what you have just to be sure.

fans come in different diameters and thicknesses.

say you have a HS that screws on with a 60mm fan that's some 20mm thick... if you get a fan that's some 10mm thick, it may not "fit" meaning the screws would not secure it. BUT in general, fans are standardized with respect to size. meaning, you might not be able to find a 62mm fan that's 65mm thick... (freaky fan) ;-)

there are hs and fan combos with 50mm and 40mm. but with respect to "modern" fans, it's usually 60mm since it needs to be "small" and powerful ;-)

anyway, yeah, you can basically get any 60mm fan that's thick enough.
