do anime opening theme songs make sense in japanese?

I'm watching DNAngel on dvd today and I stopped to read the english translation of the lyrics to the opening song and they just made me laugh it is a language barrier thing and the lyrics make perfect sense in Japanese or are they just basically nonsensical? I've noticed this in like every anime tv series I've watched.

sometimes the subtitle is just the phonetic equivalent of the sound. Not translated. I think they are trying to teach you how to sing the song as opposed to translating it.
