Do animals have extra senses?

I was walking thru the pouring rain near the courtyard at school today and saw atleast 60 birds digging up worms all in close proximity. All of a sudden they bolted up out of there at the same time. At the time I thought this was strange since I didn't notice anything disturbing them. Then about 30 seconds later I heard a loud jet fly by, then I thought maybe these birds can sense things that we don't.

Has anyone had similar experiences or heard of any where your pet or animal may have noticed something you didn't?

Yea, my cats back home seemed to have a 6th sense about those allergic to cats. 20 people can walk into the room and they seems to know who to snuggle up against to crates maximum misery.

Yes, they can sense things you can't.
No, the birds did not bolt because of a jet flying by half a minute later.
No, they do not have extra senses, they just have senses that work differently
than yours.

Animals sense things in sometimes very different ways than we do,
so it was probably something else that you didn't sense that one
of the birds picked up on.

When birds "bolt" it is usually only one or two birds that are reacting to
an outside stimulus, the rest are following the signal to fly that
the first bird gave off.

I've seen birds all flock at once because one seems to think the chance
of finding food is better across the street. Or because the rocks
look prettier there, or just to splash in the puddles.

Birds have better hearing than you do - they listen to the worms crawling through the ground to find out where to dig. I don't think any human could do that very well:Q:):Q
