Do all threads have to get approved?

I posted a thread in general hardware and a message flashed up but it was gone before I posted it, not sure what it said but something about approval, I'm posting again in off-topic to check.

Apparently not, let me rephrase that. Do all threads in general hardware have to get approved. OR does someones first post have to get approved?

I think you have to have a minimum number of posts before you can post outside of the social forums.
