Martin Logan, Magnepan, and perhaps other speaker manufacturers make 'flat' speakers. They are not the typical cone-shaped speakers. But I am not sure if they use magnets or not.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about was the bass reproduction.
 
Electrostats are great but freaking expensive. Sennheiser has a set of electrostatic headphones that will run you $10000 IIRC.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about was the bass reproduction.
even without a sub as long as you dont blast them yull be fine. they give the fullest sound ive evere heard. and this is only from 2 speakers. its liek a sorround setup
 
ESS (now only selling in California) used to have Plasma speakers. It was phenominal sound. They looked like a vertical plexiglass tube with a sound port in the front.

I still have a pair of ESS AMT1Bs (i've replaced the elements, now they're the same as 1Cs) - still among the best speakers I've ever listend to.
