Do all Radeon 3XXX+ have onboard audio?

I bought a 4850 from somebody, but he said it doesn't come with the DVI-HDMI thing. I am having trouble finding out if all of ATI's cards have onboard sound (I haven't had an ATI card since the 9800PRO.)

Does the 4850 have HD onboard sound? If I were to find one of those DVI-HDMI things that pass sound, would it work or do I need something else?

The 4850 does, but you need the original DVI-HDMI adaptor to make it work. I bought an open box 4870 without one, and even the adaptor I bought from the ATI site doesn't support the audio passthrough. Maybe someone has an extra one from a previous card they can send you.

That's what confused me too. I didn't know DVI could pass audio, but apparently the ports on the newer Radeons have extra pins that allow them to, but you need the DVI-HDMI converter. It's not just Radeons that have HDMI ports as far I know.

Stop it! You put forth this bad information before. Cards with only DVI can output audio with the proper adapter.

Seconded. You just need a DVI->HDMI adapter from any Radeon. Generic or Nvidia ones won't do it for Radeon cards. I'm amazed the one directly from ATI didn't work but it shouldn't be terribly hard to find one.
