Do all Philips products suck?

I've got a 3 disc cd changer with 4x burner. Out of 6 attempted burns, it's only worked once. The CD-R tray doesn't close or extend all of the way, it randomly ejects, and it won't get past intialization except for that one time.

I'm ready to shove this thing up their CEO's ass.

Anyone else have any problems with Philips, or did we get a dud?

They make good halogen light bulbs (the kind that screw into a regular light socket). They've lasted me almost a year now (a set of 4) 🙂

probably not but they help you see to copy cd's.😀

My limited experience with Philips electronics (i.e. not computer equipment) taught me to never buy one of their products.

Yikes:

Philips products are defect prone - beware!, May 16, 2003

Failed to write, lost memory, damaged CDs, ruined over 40 blank CDs by failing in mid recording. EVERY Philips CD recorder we tried is junk! And forget their customer care even if you purchase their pricey coverage plan (which you will need if you buy their machines). The positive reviews appear to be people who were the fortunate few. Sadly Philips, which was one of the inventors of the CD technology, has failed to keep up their reputation in the CD recorder market. Buyer beware!

I'm going to have to recommend that we send it back. I have a boat load of CDs to copy.

I hope you have obtained permission from the appropriate owners

There was a class action lawsuite against them for their early CD Burners. Something about inherent low quality and not correcting known defects. Either way, not a very good company when it comes to CDRW's

No kidding.

In order to get it to work, I have to turn it off, quickly put in a CDR and slam it closed, then turn it off again, then turn it on and push the CDR button. Then wait, push the CD1 button, then CD Copy. All of that for a blistering 4x copy....

Their CDR drives are suck. Wouldn't take one for free. Or if you paid me. Although I think they may OEM some of them now... Those I'd consider.

Magnavox TV's and some other stuff is worth the price and on par with the competitors.

Just my experiences.

My understanding is that they have the best engineers in the world.

But that doesn't necessarily translate to good production quality.

It's really a hit and miss with Phillips products.

I have a $2000 Phillips SACD/DVD player. The pic freeezes intermittently--something that not even my old $200 Toshiba doesn't do!
