I bought a 120GB "JR" drive from Circuit City ($45 after rebate plus another discount). There is no brand name on the packaging whatsoever, but it's obviously Western Digital's new-style packaging. A closer look reveals the model number starting with "WDC" (Western Digital Corporation) and then a big fat Western Digital drive is plainly visible through the back, including WD-logoed paperwork and utility disk. It's a 7200RPM 8MB cache drive, so I knew it was a rebranded WD Special Edition 120GB "JB" drive with one third the warantee and no name to pricematch to so therefore an overall cheaper price than the equivalent SE drive. Sure enough, on the inside was a drive labeled as a standard 120JB drive. Because the drive wasn't even relabled, I assumed that a warranty check on WD's site was in order. Sure enough, the warranty was the full 3 years, but the site DID recognize the serial number as being from a 120JR drive. The serial number on the packaging matched, so I guess they added "JR" to the database when packaging JB drives in JR packaging, yet they didn't knock the warranty down to 1yr whule they were at it. Do all "JR" drives have 3 year warranties with WD? Anyone else here wanna check theirs? Use the serial from the package if you don't wanna take yours out; it's the same. I'd like to know before they go on sale again
