I have an old compaq laptop with a mobile athlon xp 1500+ in it. I was wondering if I could pull the cpu from that rig and throw it on an old a7v8x-x I have. I have no idea if this would actually work, so any advice is great.

mobile chips dont work on desktops...

Bollocks.

Yes they work, the preferred overclocking AXP was the 2500+ M which was the mobile version. I cant guarantee it though, some mobile athlon XP's arent socket A. CPU world lists a few 1500+ mobile varients as socket A though.

mobile will work with desktop , i even had a pair modified to work on a dual socket msi board long time ago . that modification involved cutting a trace on the cpu very dangerous and very dead if done wrong

Well its a Socket A processor for sure. I'm going to try the pull today. Dusted off the A7V8X-X but I think some of these capacitors are leaking... might need a new board.

Side note, this Duron 1100 I have is the "coldest" processor I've ever seen. With a Cooler Master heatsink I'm getting temps in the teens. The highest I've seen is about 28° full load. Of course no overclock yet, but I'm thinking of messing with it as practice for the Athlon build. I've never really done any socket A overclocking, any tips?
