Do all GTX 970s boost higher than they state?

Per the specs on my Gigabyte GTX 970 G1, the boost is supposed to be to 1329 but mine boosts to 1392 (stock - no manual OCing.) Per RivaTuner/MSI Afterburner, my card stays at 1392 stock throughout while gaming (it also shows my base core speed is 1177 which is basically the same as the published 1178 for the card.)


At first I thought the published 1329 was a typo - thinking the actual 1392 boost I am seeing was transposed incorrectly as 1329 on specification sheets, but the multiple (boost #/base #) of the 1178 base to 1329 boost is roughly the same as the boost multiple on other 970 models.

Also searching for Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 and 1392, I found some other people posting theirs where boosting to 1392.

Again if you divided boost by core speed, all GTX 970s are reporting around 12.8% increase over stock during boost (for example, the G1s 1329 boost /1178 base) , but mine and others' G1 is actually doing 18.2%

Fluke or are all GTX 970s boosting higher than stated they will?

Anyone else with a G1 confirm if yours boosts to 1392 (versus 1329) at stock?

Pretty much all cards are going to boost higher than the stated amount but may throttle back over time.

But wouldn't they publish the maximum (as in up-to)?

if you have look at any Kepler/Maxwell review for the last several years you would know that all Nvidia cards boost higher than advertised. its been explained why many times and its no mystery. they guarantee you the advertise boost clocks under normal conditions and then if the card has thermal and/or power room and can boost a few more bins. the exact amount can vary from card to card but on the same model its usually no more than one bin if its different at all. they don want to list the actual max it can boost up to because you will not always get that and then people will needlessly complain.

Thanks. So if card has temperature and power and voltage headroom it boosts even higher. I just raised my power/temperature max and voltage (left clock at stock) and it boosted to mid 1400s.
