Do airports have power outlets in them for public use?

Got a cross country flight coming up, and I'm taking my laptop.
Don't want to spend $60 for the converter to use on the plane
so I'm going off battery power.

If airports have power outlets in the terminals, I'll just charge
up during a layover..

I haven't noticed whether or not they have them before

Anyone know?

Uh... I don't know if they'll allow a screwdriver in your carry-on. In most if not all of the airports I have been to, there have been outlets around, so I don't think it'll be a problem. I usually plug my laptop right in.

I've seen them all over airports. Try looking for some around support columns near a seating area.

I have seen the wall sockets in the Southwest terminal at LAX, prolly elsewhere but that was the only place I noticed them cos I need one at that time.

I first came across this question myself while in Orlando International Airport. They had outlets near the seating areas. Many people needed them to charge their cell phones actually. When I arrived back in La Guardia, I had to charge my phone and there they were... outlets all over the place.

I doubt airport rep will say anything to you about using them.

Yep, and you can use them... just fine one and plug it in, no big deal.

Yeah, never had a problem or seen someone say something about it. The only problem I have ever run into is when there is no room near the outlets near my gate.

I too use them all the time. Sometimes you really have to look to find them. St. Louis Airport doesn't have many, you really have to look. The cleaning crews must have some really long extension cords.

I've been in about 4 or 5 airports that have outlets around and it seems that everyone just sits down and plugs in. I'm not saying it's legal because technically, you're stealing. :p

Most airports do. Sometimes you gotta fight for them . . . (not literally) And make sure people don't trip over the power cord--airport staff hates that.

I know....
FYI, in an emergency ;), if the flight crew is cool, you can recharge using the shaver outlet in the plane's restroom.
I've used power in most of the airports I've visited across the US over the last 6 years< how long I've been toting a lappie.
No one has ever said anything, in fact I have a small power strip that I use so as to leave the other plug open for someone else. I'm usually recharging several batteries at once.... cell phone, Laptop, NiCads for test gear, etc.
Check Radio Shack for Plane Power adaptor, Could be less than $60.00....

I might make the case that given there are Airport Use fees and other service and utility related costs buried in the cost of the plane tickets and parking fees, the payment for the power is covered by those users of the airport.
