hi again,

just thought i'd ask a quick question about fans and such... is there anything on the market that actually COOLS air, as well as blows it? like maybe an all-in-one unit that might fit in a 5.25" bay (or even two) and intake air, and cool it, then blow it inside? i've been looking around and have seen those radiators, but they're all for water cooling...

any ideas?

Yes.

Case@Newegg with active peltier cooling, kinda pricey though.

Do beware of many 5¼" drive bay products marketed as "PC air conditioning" and promising to lower case temperatures. Sure, any extra fan can lower case temperatures. What you were thinking of was a product that lowers air temperatures through making the air colder, not just case temperatures through making the case have better ventilation.

Example of "air conditioner" fan - not what you want

Another example of "air conditioner" fan - not what you want

The real deal, using a TEC (peltier) to actually make the air cooler

I personally think that these are not worth it. The peltiers in these are just too weak; methinks they're just the weak little pelts that you'll find in beverage coolers.

A fan by itself would not cool the air (neglecting evaporation) unless the fan blades were colder than the air flowing past them.

Hi,

No. The two products are unrelated.

Even though someone is selling a peltier cooled fan, you can separate the and place the peltire in a duct leading to the fan just as well.

Indeed - that would be better, because there are all sorts of reasions why you might want to place a fan in a particular position, whereas cooling the air inside the case (or in a duct leading into the inside of the case - same difference) with a peltier means you have to arrange to cool the peltier, so you end up locating it quite differently from the fan.
