Do 7200 rpm HDDs make noise?

The reason i ask is because i just got a laptop, and it has a constant noise like a fan running the entire time. the problem is that the fan should NOT be running all the time on this model, and im pretty sure i dont see the fan blades moving or feel air being blown out all the time.

is it possible the 7200rpm HDD is making a whirring noise? i wish i could check somehow but it seems like speedfan and i8kfangui dont show me anything about my fans.

thanks!

ALL mechanical hdds make noise - some are just quieter than others.

But on a lappy, the CPU fan should run all the time - otherwise the chip can easily overheat. Probably not at full speed though. Download a temp monitor to check your thermals before you do anything else.
