Do 1993 Chevrolet Caprice's have Corvette engines in them?

My dad was just telling me that he's going to be selling one of his cop cars very soon. It's a 1993 Chevrolet Caprice with a Corvette engine in it which is in high demand. Is this right?

It wouldn't be an LS1 if it was a '93. It may have a corvette engine in it (or rather, the same engine they used in the corvette), chevy has been known to do that. I think one of the 50's impalas had the same engine the 'vette used at the time (57?), whatever year, I know I've got one sitting in a barn that just needs new piston rings :D

If it's the police interceptor, it's probably a fast car. The Caprice was basicly rebadged into an Impala SS before the Impala had its own model, they just switched out engines.

Well I did some searching and it looks like his 93' has a 5.7-liter V8, developing 180 horsepower and the 94' got a high-performance 5.7-liter derived from the Corvette's LT1 V8. Later in the model year, an aggressively styled, performance-oriented Impala SS joined up, carrying that toned-down LT1 V8. The 5.7-liter V8 was optional in 1992-93 wagons (standard in '93 LTZ sedan), produced only 10 more horsepower than the 5.0, but 45 more pound-feet of torque.
For 1994, a 4.3-liter V8 replaced the 5.0-liter, hooked to a new electronically controlled transmission and making 200 horsepower. At the same time, a potent new 260-horsepower version of the 5.7-liter V8 became optional--an evolution of the LT1 engine in Corvettes. That V8 was standard in the Impala SS. For its final year (1996), torque output on the LT1-based engine peaked at lower engine speed.

So is this engine / car in high demand??

all 5.7's are based on the same engine. They tune it however they like. hence the reason that the Caprice, Firebird, Corvette, and trucks can all use the same engine

5.7liter v8 and only 180hp? that's a far cry from being efficient even in '93...

my parents have a '93 maxima gxe which has a 3.0liter v6 and 160hp/183lb-ft torque (the 'se' had 190hp)...i don't know crap about domestics, but how well would a maxima do if pitted against the aforementioned engine?

The corvette engine had aluminum heads.

That's not true. The trucks use the Vortech line of engines, which is entirely different from the LS1/LT1 line of engines.

i never said anything about the ls1, lt1, or vortec. I said that they are all based on the same engine. Caprice cop cars actually got Vortec heads on it
