DNS vs SLP

So here is the thread.

We are looking at a better solution for name resolution. Currenty we run both SLP and DNS (dont ask me why, i dont know). We were thinking of switching entirely to DNS, putting all our servers in the DNS servers, and using a hosts file for all servers. Is this the best way to do it, to reduce traffic for name resolution and resolve them quicker?

You should also look at why your clients arent caching their DNS entires, maybe the cache is expireing too fast? If they are , then that would explain why you have too much DNS traffic.

too much SLP traffic.

well then change everything over to DNS and you should be good.

There is only one naming system. That system is DNS.

host files are also the work of the devil and should be avoided at all costs.
