My cousin is having an issue with his laptop, and even being in tech support myself, I cannot figure it out. He couldn't get on the home website of his college, but everyone else he knew could. I ended up discovering that his DNS server address setting for his LAN connection were set to manual ("Use the following DNS server addresses). I had him set that to obtain the DNS server address automatically, then do the usual ipconfig release/renew. After this, he was able to get on his college's website.
However, upon reboot, the DNS settings when back to manual and the college website didn't work again. We changed them again, got on the website again, then the setting revert on reboot. I even tried finding his DNS servers, and having him set those manually. After that, the website worked, but the settings reverted again after a reboot.
This is frustrating the heck out of me, because I've never seen the settings refuse to take like that. I've tried everything I can think of for this short of a format (I'd have to wait until he comes back from college to do that). Any ideas?
Cliffs:
1. Cousin's unable to get on campus website.
2. DNS server settings resetting on reboot.
3. Tried changing settings, manually setting.
4. Still resets DNS server address setting.
