DNS Registration Problem (Win2K)

hey, on my only domain controller (hosting 2 zones, root DNS server) I am getting the following error every 5-10 mins in my syslog which fills it up. Its not causing any problems as far as I know but its a major annoyance... here is the problem.

error: 5774

registration of DNS record '_kpasswd._tcp.valleyservicesi.com. 600 IN SRV 0 100 464 valley_dc1.valleyservicesi.com ' failed with the following error: DNS server unable to interpret format.

any ideas? this is really annoying as it fills up syslog in a matter of a day.

looks like active directory trying to register itself.

but then again, I'm clueless when it comes to win2000. Maybe try reading the windows2000 active directory white paper on the MS site.

SHADOW? where you at?

Yeah, where is shadow?? Actuallly, I think he just logged in, should be along shortly.

Anyway--this is definately a W2K, probably DC kind of thing. I would suspect some sort of kerberos thing. Try microsoft.com.

I was thinking kerberos because of the kpasswd seemed like a kerberos password problem. I did change the local administrator username for security reasons I am wondering if that had any adverse effect, although it shouldn't because when you use GPO to change the default administrator accoun it changes every reference of it to the new name, but this is also microsoft so who knows.

Ok, i found an article on microsoft: Troubleshooting Netlogon Event 5774, 5775, and 5781 I read through it, it was not very detailed but going through I found out I had dynamic update turned off on the "." root zone, I enabled it. I do not think this will fix the problem but we will see. I will post a follow up in about an hour (when I get back from lunch) and let everyone know if it works.
