DNS problems with WRT54g

i've been trying to connect a dell XPS laptop running windows xp wirelessly to a wrt54g. so far, it's getting the connection, but when you open IE it doesn't work. using the command prompt we were able to ping google's ip address but not google.com. when trying to run nslookup we get a server unknown. the internet works if we manually hook it up to the router but not wirelessly. i have set the comp to detect ip and DNS automatically. is there a way to fix this mess? ive tried flushing and renewing dns to no avail
