Dns-321 questions

I have a dns 321 running a few years now with 2 x 1 terabyte drives in raid1. I have run out of space. I no longer think the raid1 is necessary. What is my best options to switch raid to normal or jbod and keep data on drives safe?

Is the raid1 ext2 or ext3 file system?

I assume normal means it will show 2 drive letters and jbod will come up as one drive? Also if I use jbod and one drive dies will the info on other drive be safe?

Thanks for the help.

One more thought, if I run raid0 will the performance jump be huge? transfer speeds are kinda slow.

the dns-321 is a pretty slow NAS. i dont think you are gonna get much speed even if you do go raid 0, because the cpu / ram in that nas just can't push data fast enough.

i mean maybe if your 2 drives ewre really really slow , the raid 0 might barely help. but even the newer dns320/325 are not very fast NAS devices.

So if I remove drives switch settings to normal reinstall drive will I be able to access info?
In a previous post, you said you got access to your files. You have a backup, now, yes?

IE, now you start over with a blank volume. In JBOD, you might be able to access the files, but don't plan on it.
