Hi folks, I tried searching this but my connection keeps timing out. If someone's already asked this can you link the thread.

I was playing round with ubuntu and found myself very impressed with pulseaudio. I've been suggested to look at DLNA streaming as well and figured I'd start here.

Is it possible/necessary to use pulseaudio and/or DLNA for sound. Will I need them both on my laptop to stream music around. Can DLNA replace pulse, or is there a plugin for it.

I've already seen that the papreferences let me select an RTPmulticast (is that the same as DLNA). All in all its a tad confusing and I am looking for somewhere to start.

DLNA is just a network protocol for accessing media on a server. Any DLNA client would still need to go through the local sound server and driver to play sound.
