dnetc.ini question reference dialup

Where in the .ini file would you put "lurk" so that it will detect when you are on the Internet and flush/fetch if needed?

What does "dialup-watcher=active" do?

I am setting up my son's system to run RC5. I had him running SETI, but had trouble getting him to upload WUs and/or to keep it running. Long story... So, I'm trying to make this idiot proof.

JWM, active means that the DNet client will dial out whenever it needs more blocks... if you set passive it will just update whenever it sees a connection ...

I assume you've got the modem on this computer? If you're using LAN and ICS it might be a little tricky ... but you could still do it with remote buffers and a paused client on the machine with the modem 😉

Let us know if you need more info

Thanks TwoFace! I assume that the default is "Passive".

I still would like to know where "lurk" fits into this. What command does it apply to?

The system is stand-alone with an internal modem.

OH NOOOOOOO!!!!!!

:Q :Q :Q

(/me runs off to try to get her Duron 700 to post at 981Mhz! :Q)

😉

It's getting close Miss Poof! Last I looked I was at 97k on Mika's. So, by Monday it will be over. May the best person win! 🙂😀

You are really puttin' a lot into this! But, I see that your other DC projects have suffered. Oh, well.

Yeah but your Mika stats aren't matching with dnet! 😛

At dnet, after yesterday's flush, you had: 92,297
And I was: 88,642

And looking now at Mika's.... MUUUAAHAHAHAHA!
(remember, I have about 20-some thousand blocks NOT on Mika's...😉)

Duron POSTed and is cracking at 981... /me wonders if she should try 990! :Q

(and yes... ALL other projects are off now... 🙁)

ROFL, you guys have some excellent racing action going 🙂

JWM, lurking is what DNet calls it when the client won't initiate a connection to a keyserver without meeting some parameters. Lurk comes in two modes, lurk and lurk-only ... active is lurk and will initiate a connection to a server if not connected to the net (only works if you've got the machine set to autodial of course😉) passive is lurk-only and will only use an already existing connection...

Hope that clears it up some 😉

TwoFace: So, are you saying that if I put "dialup-watcher=active" that his system will "lurk" and detect when he connects to the Internet? Are there other .ini commands that need to be set to any specific values for this to work?

Poof Why would you stop all of your other DC projects just to win this race? Did I hit a nerve, or what?

It's just for the weekend... 😉

I got me 3 faster machines out of the process (especially the alpha, which will help when I start SETI back up on it), and doing that, if anything, will help speed up the other stuff in the long run. I have one more card up the sleeve and that's OCing the dual Xeon (I have a special BIOS for it), but being that it's a windud 2K box that's been up for > 150days, I'd hate to lose the uptime! 😉

And I'm..ahem... "burning them all in with RC5"... It's all for the good of TA! 🙂

heh

(this reminds me of the Billy Jean King/Bobby Riggs match... LOL 😀)

JWM, yeah it will lurk if you put dialup-watcher=active in there, but it will also dial out if it runs out of work, or if you use the wrong bufferlevel checking... I usually recommend dialup-watcher=passive for dial-up connections since most people don't like their computer dialing out whenever it feels like it 😱 If you don't mind it doing that by all means go with active 😉
