DNet, OGR and RC5

Funny thing, I though I?d give the client a shot, I have two computers here (work) that are pretty pitiful and can?t run seti worth a darn (32mb or less ram). Well I though I?d tryout RC5. So I DL and install the client (BTW Paulson, very nice FAQ) on my own computer to get a feel for it, and work out any configuration bugs? Anyway two things really jumped out at me?
First, it defaults to OGR, which is ok I guess, the OGR team could use some help.
But second, I really notice it running. Now this seems really weird to me, because everyone tells me that the dnet client runs much nicer then the seti client. So can anyone explain this to me? My computer is a P3 750@898, with 256mb pc133 cl2 ram with memory timings set to 2,2,2. I really only notice this system lag with one program. It?s called TUN emulator. And it?s an emulator I use to access our AIX system on a serial network. It lags out REALLY bad though. Anyone?

Sounds odd, I can run just about anything on my computer and not see an effect, whether it's gaming, running benchmarks like SiSoft Sandra, 3DMark2000 or even 3D modelling. On the flip side of that, I've run SETI without much noticable effect either.

OB, it seems to be the odd things that conflict with the Dnet client, mostly proprietary, and it looks like you have found a new one.
In the configuration you can select "pause if running" to stop the client when you use the emulator. Of course if the emulator runs FT in the background that wouldn't be good.

Thanx for the help with the other projects OB

Don't have an .ini FAQ, but it is easy enough to get through the dnet configuration.

Right click on the dnet client window to bring up a client menu.

Click configuration and look through the options-not too many.

Changes made here will show up in your .ini file, so after you make changes in the config, look in the .ini to see what changed.

If you want to do only RC5, you can change the client preference order to "RC5,DES,CSC,OGR" (this works sometimes), or you can force it to not do OGR by setting "OGR=0" on that same line.

the only problem i have ever encountered with the dnet client is that on my dual processor system, i can't run quake 3 in smp mode and have dnet running at the same time, q3 just hangs. but other than then, of all the systems that i have installed the client on, nothing is noticeably slower.
