I think we here at TA have started a trend with our mini-teams. I think it is safe to say it adds another dimension of competition and makes things a little bit more fun. so why don't we start a petition of sorts here and see if dnet can make it so miniteams are an officially supported feature. I'll be the first one to "sign" this petition and i have sent a letter to nugget and moose with a link to this thread, letting them gage interest by the response to this thread. So would all of those already in a mini-team, wnat to join a miniteam, or even if you think it is a good idea, please post here. thanks a bunch, TWTA.

HAH! You just want to get past the 8 eMail limit since it's the only hope you have of ever getting out of TA Cube's dust cloud!!!!!!

This is no trend!! This is a serious,:) costly and calculated step forward!

Do you know how hard it is to construct phaser banks that can rock a Borg Cube? :Q:p

The universe (and RC5) is evolving.

actually russ, we have gotten over that. we are just hoping dnet could do this for the benefit of us [of course] and the other miniteams that have sprouted up here.

HAH!!! You think that your conciliatory remarks will lull us in to a sense of security. TA Cube is privy to your attempt at deception! We will not be fooled!

On the other hand.....We will!:)

The Federation supports the mini-team concept (as so obviously does the Borg):) It gives us greater reason to assimilate and crack numbers for dnet. We do it for fun. More fun = more number crunching.

System, you have our full support. Now of course we expect yours in our recruiting campaign. Since the 8 emails annoyance is holding up your team, you may kindly guide new members to us!:D

Here is my voice of support.

Russ is using the Borgian "We". His condition is deteriorating... :)

What's the deal with Two anyway? Is his lab up again?

I support the idea anyway... Just because I'm not in a miniteam doesn't mean I wouldn't like to someday (when my output is actually worth something:p) and as you guys all say more fun = more cracking :D

Me too! Though I'm not currently involved in RC5, there may come a time when I'll want to get involved in some other dnet project, and the availability of "mini-teams" is an added incentive!

It's that you can only retire 8 emails to any 1 email.:(

Moreover, cascaded retires dont allow to bypass the limit.
I mean, networkman retired to osmo's, then when osmo retired to TWTA, he actually retired 2 accounts, his and networkman's.

Oh, and yes, I support the concept of miniteams, in any fashion that you like.

I will support mini teams with one condition. I would like to see a stats option for inividual e-mails and then a seperate section for mini-teams.

No offense, I've put in a lot of time and effort to climb the rankings, and I'm starting to get to a point where my production won't push me any higher in the ranks, and with people retiring e-mails into their accounts, people are shooting past me faster than I can count.

With that said, if mini-teams prevents more retiring of e-mails, then I am all for it!!!

I am part of a mini team, but when we started out, no one retired anything. We just put our own emails on hold and started cracking for the mini team. While it would be nice to be able to retire email addresses at will and then have them un-retired when someone decided to leave the group, it would create an absolute nightmare to support and maintain. What happens when people join a mini-team one day, retire their email address into it, and then decide they want to go back 2 days later???

As we all know, the guys at Dnet are not loaded with free time.

If you want to join a mini-team, that's fine. I am all for the idea because it does add more fun to the game. Just put your own email on hold while you are cracking for the mini. It gives you a way to back out at any time you want. If you are that concerned about getting back blocks that you contributed to the mini team then just don't join.

That's my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

The Dutch power Cows do already have mini-teams (Or subteams, as we call it) for months.

A couple of weeks ago (june 26) me and Energy had a discussion with _Mike_, MooseH, Nugget, TheCougar, BWilson en Cowplex About Megaflush 6, and later we discussed with BWilson some options, one of was implementation of Subteams at Distributed.net.

I agree with NT4Mike: once in the mini-team stats an individual should not be allowed to un-retire them; this would treat a mini basically the same way Dnet treats a team.

The 8 email retire rule should probably be lifted.

Supertweaker-there are several "mini-teams" within TA, I am part of one, the issue here is the 8 email limit on retirement.

"As we all know, the guys at Dnet are not loaded with free time."

The whole idea behind getting DNET to add official support with a real miniteam feature is that they DON'T have to do anything manually when people join or unjoin a miniteam, same as people right now can join or switch team affiliations at will.

I don't support this at all.. IMO.. if it isn't supported maybe PF will stop asking me to join this "TWTA". :p Hahaha.. just kidding... seriously... no.. get away... hehehe... :) I think miniteams are a great idea! (Not that I would want to join one.. PF..). :D Ok.. enough of that.. I shouldn't be posting right after I wake up.. ;)

I don't think that I am in on this one for the same reasons that NT4Mike has allready stated. If you want on a sub-team/mini-team just start one from scratch with a new e-mail.
Here are 4 notable examples-

giantnt4vizmechthunderstormXnetc.pt=The Thunderstorm for short
russXcompucheap.com=One and Two of Borg
rc5crackheadsXhotmail.com=?? (those other guys from Des Moines):)
ta-cannibalcowsXragingbull.com=The Federation

Retiring old accounts just looks like a way to try to gang up on somebody after the fact, and just makes people with lots of work previously completed targets for assimilation.

Finally, there may be something in the stats code that is limited to 8 retires.
