This type of thing is happening in many countries. Cops for what ever reason don't have a clue who committed a crime where DNA evidence was left. So they resort to attempting to collect DNA from every man between 18 and 60 'voluntarily? of course. They also make it clear that any person that doesn?t voluntarily agree will automatically be considered a suspect in the crime.

Then they can just issue me an armband that says "suspect". I will wear it with pride.

No F**ing way. Let them come after me with the BS tactics. Same thing John Asscroft said about the Patriot Act ...." if you're not a criminal then you don't have anything to worry about". Well I am one of those who was shaken down in my youth by corrupt cops, don't you believe what they say!!! Let them come after you.

Hell no, even if I was assured it'd be destroyed afterwards.
They also make it clear that any person that doesn?t voluntarily agree will automatically be considered a suspect in the crime.
If this was the accepted reasoning of the time, it'd already be too late to deny the police their request.

I think law enforcers need to consider how valuable a society that view them as halfway decent is the their profession.

If everyone is a suspect, then the police lose most of their power.

I doubt that I would, especially for a truly blanket search; if their investigation narrowed the pool to a smaller number of suspects, I Would be more inclined to offer my assistance. Of course if they could narrow the pool down to what I might consider a suitable number, they could probably get a warrant for my DNA anyway.

I would hope that the men of Cape Cod, MA are very angry.
O'Keefe also said McCowen had agreed to provide a DNA sample in 2002, but that the sample was not collected until March 2004. The match was not made until earlier this month.
as it turns out the cops and the state crime lab simply didn't do their job, and as a result they wanted all men to surrender freedoms. Now that the garbage man has been arrested, perhaps the police chief should be demoted to the guy hanging on the back of a garbage truck.

DNA dragnets are spreading to Louisiana or Virginia, perhaps Michigan
and even in Australia

It's automatic in Georgia too.

Even if you are hauled in for not being to provide proof of Insurance they will collect DNA in the arrest processing.

All 50 States are looking to eventually arrest everyone for any minor Bullsh1t they can do bolster the DNA database.

Hospitals collect DNA sample of every baby for the database, so now when you are born you are automatically cataloged. Of course they say it for beneign thing such as if a child is kidnapped or something that the DNA is on file for reference.

scary.
it also seems stupid to think this is a good way to get things done. 2 weeks ago, i saw a woman speak who was in a lab which did criminal DNA stuff...she said it would take forever just to get recent cases processed. i can't imagine how long a DNA dragnet would take.
it also assumes that the criminal would be in close proximity to where the crime was committed.

They'll stop doing that when they begin to encounter citizens with guns who don't think it is such a grand idea.

Analyzing the poll, we can safely conclude that no women read or post in P&N  :D

But seriously, the cops can go pound sand, no way i give up my liberties or rights!

The police have a tough job, but the end doesn't justify the means. I gues it boils down to if you trust the goverment, ROFL.

They will still have your gene profile in their database even if they destroy the sample.

I'm recalling a news article some time ago about a doctor who, unbeknown to his patients, took samples from them for some type of fluid?? He got lucky and found a person with the right stuff to grow cultures used in cancer tests? The doctor got rich from it and the person the sample came from got nothing.

The govt. has more guns than you. They have nice next gen bullet proof armor. That which is used against foreigners can be used against us quite nicely. Make no mistake, if you stand against the government you will die.
