Search can't find the old main thread :|

There were several people here playing it, and I recall them being -somewhat- positive, but the GameSpot review is much less so. Final verdicts anyone?

Wow...$15? I'm all over this when I get home.

The original incarnation was buggy as hell I believe, such is the way of ubisoft products. I'm not sure how much they've fixed it yet but for $15 I can't go to wrong.

I played it at release, and it was buggy and very laggy. I think they've patched it a bit, but it doesn't seem to have gotten any recent patch-love from Ubi.

More importantly, though, the game just isn't that fun. Check out Tom Chick's funny 1up.com review: here
Some snippets:
"Welcome to The Adventures of Sir Kicksalot Deathboot in the Land of the Conspicuously Placed Spike Racks"
"Your simple boot regularly upstages magic, stealth, archery, and combat, all of which are represented in the basic skill tree. No matter which "class" you choose, it will behoove you to play a Kicklord."

I was trying to decide if it was worth reinstalling on my new high-end rig to play again more smoothly and with the graphics cranked up, but the game wasn't fun enough to want to play through twice.

All that said, though, it's not terrible or anything. At $15 you'll get your money's worth for sure, IMHO.

you just got to know how to "search" :p

The 4 Endings of DM M&M

and it is a very good game - Similar to Fable [fable is *better*]

not short at all since there ARE 4 endings

my Hero chose *not to be a "kicklord"* ;)

and had a LOT of fun

BTW, the *latest patch* fixed most of the issues ... still *minor* bugs [save a lot near the end] and the Source sssStutter is present.

Thats actually pretty funny because even in the demo I noticed how powerful the kick was. Swords are blocked or don't do a ton of damage, but the mighty foot sent them flying back 15ft.

Just got this with my new video card and have been playing it.

I gotta say, I'm really enjoying it. Its a rail shooter in the same viel as HL2, but solving problems isn't so constrained.

The combat is really fun, I actually like the adrenaline effect a lot. Sword blocking, stategic kicking, impaling knocked out foes, being swarmed with goblins...all pretty cool. The enemy AI is pretty neat too...I haven't really encountered them doing anything retarded and they put up pretty good fights with good weapon handling.

Attention to detail is superb, the movement is a bit more realistic then most shooters...you get momentum going. I love being able to see your body in first person, it seems trivial but its actually a pretty uncommon effect.

Character models are great, the women in the game are total babes even though they're computer models. Pretty impressive.

Great point apoppin, I played the demo and thought it had some great combat, but then the reviews always talk about kicking being way too good. I don't understand why someone would kick all the time when the real fighting is so fun. I guess some people jsut can't play a game without abusing overpowered things.

i think of DM M&M's 'kick' like "bullet time"

it *destroys* any game if you use it all the time ... i like to use it at hard points when you are mobbed - for example - and don't want to replay it over and over to figure the strategy

i wish STALKER had a 'cheat' like that :p

Just installed this last night. I was hoping it was kind of like Oblivion but it seems to be nothing like it (except for swords, horses, etc). How long of a game is it?

30 hours my butt, probably about half that. There are 4 endings but they are nearly identical, and you don't need to play the whole way thru the game to see them, just the last 2 levels.

The game is not oblivion, no comparisons should be made between the two, they are not in the same category. DM is basically half-life 2 with swords and spells. I thought it was fun and I liked it.

I thought it was great fun. It's short, but I think it's worth at least $30. I got it free with a gfx card near release. It purports to have rpg elements, but it's really a fps that uses swords and magic. That's right up my alley. Something a little different, but not too far from the fps genre.

Dark Messiah, and fable are about as close as I want to get to an rpg I think. I started playing Oblivion, but it didn't grab me in the first 1/2 hour. I'll probably give it more time later.

sure it is ... if you explore ... find *everything* ... if you just plow thru it, maybe a dozen hours ... less with a walkthru in hand

Oblivion is massive and much more RPG ... this is more basic ... more basic even then DE's 'specialization' and 'upgrades'
*easy and fun* - if you don't 'abuse' "kicking"

Shivering Isles is better than Oblivion's MQ ... well, so is the Dark Brotherhood :p
