DMI pool data hangup

So, I know there's a ton of info on this from anywhere on the web, not to mention an old post or two here. Just want to make sure I'm covering all my bases...

So, short story short: went to boot, hang up on the Verifying DMI.... Unplugged all drives except the main and tried all different combos: no luck. Reset the ESCD: update successful but still have hangup. I tried resetting CMOS with everything still plugged in , but didn't work. So, the next thing I'm going to try is unplugging everything, and resetting CMOS, and seeing if that works (doubt it will). I think the next step is to boot of a bootable floppy and try rebuilding the MBR and all that. Problem: how can I get a boot floppy for Win XP Pro?? I know I should have one for reasons exactly like this, but I don't. Is there someone online I can download one? I looked on Microsoft's site, but they only have the 6 disk setup file, which is what everyone else has. I just want a bootable floppy for XP Pro. And I'm hoping that will solve my problems. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. - I'm pretty sure it's not a HD failure cause the HD is only about 2 or 3 months old. At least, it better not be a HD failure...

oh, I also tried clearing the internal and external cpu cache. that succeeded in giving me a "dmi pool.....updated" message, but then would hang, and on reboot back to the same. and clearing the cmos with everything unplugged didn't work either. i think more and more it must be the MBR
