I'm quite happy that you were able to walk away from your situation with just a few scrapes and brusies, best wishes to you, and your family.

Although, I was extremely upset when I clicked on your website.
The second it started to load, I was greeted by a slurry of popup ads, banners, ghost IE windows. Then came along the kicker, a program from your site was already 25% through installation! Wow! Amazing! I don't remember ever clicking yes to any agreements that said you were authorized to install software on my computer. Along with that software, would also come the usage of my bandwidth.

I just find this rather ironic for the situation you just went through. I also find it rather disappointing. 🙁
Take this up with him via PM or Email

Two whole popups. Get popupstopper and get the hell over it.

I have it. 🙂 It just happened to not be active at the current second.

Although, I got more than 2 popups.

Then you might want to run something akin to spybot. Might not be just Dave's host that's doing the popups. 😉

exactly.

either you clicked something by accident or your security settings are messed up

and the popups are not his fault. it's his free host.

i have a site on hypermart and sometimes i get blamed for the popups. i have to explain to them it's not me

Both Spybot and AdAware6 were run 5 minutes before I hit the forums, or his site, or any other link.

Dighn: Nothing was "accidently" clicked. All my security settings are medium to high, all requiring prompting.

It should be pointed out that at no point on that site does anything indicate that the site is provided by a free host or that anybody but Mcowen is responsible for the content or any popups. All URLs use his own domain name, and there isn't even a link to Hypermart (except for one popup that doesn't really imply that the site is hosted there).

Nothing tried to install here either. I think it's quite safe to say that program trying to install itself did not come from simply visiting his site... what do you want us to tell ya ?

There isn't anything you can tell me that I would care about in the slightest.

i shouldn't have jumped to that conclusion but looking at the clues i am fairly sure it's hosted by hypermart

- the popup says "Content on Hypermart members pages is not the responsibility of Hypermart"
- did a dns on the page, it points to something.go2net.com, i dns my own site on hypmart and it is also go2net.com.

as for the url, hypermart lets you use your own domain for free provided you have one already

edit: proof: http://freemcowen.hypermart.net same ip as www.freemcowen.com

so please lets not blame the guy. it's not his fault. as for the installation of whatever programs, i think it's a problemm on the client side
