DMC: Devil May Cry question?

I have used up all my inventory and stuck at a boss fight. I had 2 gold orbs and a small and large vitality star that were used. I tried to restart the level hoping my items would return but I'm not seeing anything. So my question is once you use the items are they gone forever and you must go back and play earlier missions to rebuild the inventory?

I was thinking my items would have or should have got replenished from the last save point. Meaning I could try the boss over and over.

No, you can always buy items inbetween mission levels.

I think you're misunderstanding. It's a little hard to explain and this is the first game I ever had it to happen in.

When I start the Boss fight lets pretend I have 2 large vitality stars and 2 gold orbs. During the boss fight if I use all these items and fail the fight, and try to start the fight again my items never return. It's like the game is saving as I use an item. I understand they would be gone if I actually beat the boss but I haven't. With each retry at the checkpoint I feel my items should return.

Anyway, I went back to an earlier level to experiment. Here is what happens, if I die before I reach said checkpoint and then have to reload my old checkpoint all my items return as they should. So this leads me to believe I have a bugged save file. I'm on mission 10. Anyone have a save file for mission 9 with a few items.
