Just got word from Japan this year customs went through every package and sure enough our Christmas gifts we sent finally showed up for them today.

Every box opened and every gift as well. At least they got them.

Just an FYI, her parents are going to re-wrap the kids gifts.

Was wondering what was taking so long? A friend of mine went over to teach there (ESL), and I sent her a box with some Christmas candy & small presents in a stocking, so at least it might seem more like Christmas (it's her first one away from home). Normally she gets boxes in a week or so, this one still hadn't shown up on Christmas day, and I sent it out on the 13th!

Heh, i don't blame them, the amount of abuse through international mail is probably staggering. I got a Revo 3610 from taiwan through ebay and i think they marked it as a 'gift' and a low dollar value item so there wouldn't be any taxes when they delivered it to me :D

We shipped the 11th. $250 in shipping costs.

Usually our gifts have arrived within 3 business days despite being a 6-10 business day non-guaranteed service. We would have paid the extra $100 for 3-5 day guaranteed had we known.

I don't think they are looking for postage fraud as much as contraband shipping is becoming more popular.

Personally I don't agree with the 'gift' paypaling and shipping that's going on lately either though.

But how much difference would it really have made. You pay for a 3-5 guaranteed service, but that doesn't include (or guarantee) customs clearing time. If customs hold the package for 1 week - that just means it takes 1 week + 3-5 business days for you package to arrive.

I love living in a free port. I've imported thousands of dollars worth of goods. No customs, no taxes. :awe:

I hate you. :awe: Would love to live in HK for many other reasons too, at least for several years anyway.

It's a good place to go if you're still young and single.

But a lot of the importing is because I can't find products here that I want (shaving cream) or are still more expensive than ordering from the states (most electronics and computer products).
