DMA

I know what DMA means and what it does but how do I know if I can use it on my system? When I go to enable DMA a Windows pop-up window displays the following message:

"Changing this setting may have undesirable effects with your hardware. Contact your hardware vendor to ensure that this setting is supported. Hit OK to continue"

I'm using Windows 98 Second Edition and I have a 13 GIG Maxtor Hard Drive. Can someone please explain the details of enabling DMA ? Thank you in advance.

DMA means that you can transfer data from your hard drive or any other device directly to the RAM; without the data passing through the CPU. Your 13 GB Maxtor hard drive should support this feature.
