DMA won't stay enabled on my secondary slave drive...

I just put together a new system and i can't seem to get the DMA enabled to stay on my secondary salve drive...i have two hard drives on the master channel and they both have DMA enabled...

on my secondary channel i currently have a Lite-On DVD on master and Teac 24x10x40 as slave...the dvdrom keeps the DMA checked but the teac doesn't...when i switch the two drives (cdrw master, dvd slave) then the dvd won't keep dma enabled...

so how can i keep both drives dma enabled? TIA

Duron 950
ECS K7S5A with latest BIOS (2/06/02)
Lite-On LTD-163D
Teac CD-W524E

both channels have 80pin ide cables...EDIT: i'm not asking how to enable it, i'm asking how to keep it enabled...after the reboot it'll automatically be unchecked again...

I'm using Win98SE...man, i don't think there is any possible way to have both the dvd and burner on the secondary channel with dma enabled...

i have since changed to this setup and all drives are DMA enabled now:

Primary: Maxtor 40GB (M), Lite-On DVD (S)
Secondary: Teac 24x10x40 (M)

if anyone does have both their dvd and cdrw on the secondary channel with DMA enabled, please post!

I think that's the best set-up for you anyway. When reading/writing to your burner, it should be faster since the burner is on a different channel. I'd also do software installs in that config using the burner.

I agree with Maggotry, if you burn from a hd or another cd device, it's best to operate your cdr on a different channel.

Using Pioneer DVD drive(16x40x) on master on secondary channel, and on same channel Freecom black CDRW 24x10x40 as slave ,no problems with them in WinXP.Pioneer is listed as Ultra DMA mode 4,Freecom CDRW is listed in device manager using Ultra DMA 2 speed.

I did have a very minor problem with DMA with my Maxtor D740X hd in WinXP,it was listed as Ultra DMA 0 speed, all I did was go in to BIOS and change the setting from "Auto" to " ATA-100" for my hd in intergrated peripherals section under primary master and now I have Ultra DMA 5 speed listed in device manager for my Maxtor .You could try setting DMA speed for you CDRW in bios manually and see what happens.
