DMA Won't stay enabled on my CD-Drives

First of all, my DVD-Drive and CD-Burner both support DMA. It has worked flawlessly before. Something that I have installed has disabled DMA. I can go into my device manager and check the boxes, restart, and the boxes clear themselves. This problem occured for me once before when I installed an mpeg4 .inf file. I narrowed it down to this after a fresh format, installing the .inf, and restarting only to find this problem. So I clean reinstalled and just didn't install the .inf file. Now this problem has appeared again, but I didn't run the .inf file. What I think has caused it this time is Windows Media Player. I downloaded a Matrix Fart mpeg yesterday and Media Player had to download a new codec in order to play it. So now I'm stuck with this problem again. Has anyone ever experienced this and might know a possible work around without reinstalling Windows? I tried reinstalling the Intel INF update for my 440BX chipset but that didn't work.

Dammit! It happened again!!! I completely reinstalled my system from scratch, was in the middle of installing a few apps, and the damn thing turned off on me again. I also DID check in between reboots so I know it WAS staying enabled. Just got done installing Office 2000 SR-1. That better not be the culprit. I'll be p!ssed. Argh!
