DMA Problems with Epox 8kta3

When I enable DMA on my DVD or CD-R drives I can't watch movies or burn cd's. When I turn DMA off everything works fine. I can't stand the jerky DVD playback w/o DMA on! Any ideas why this happening?

I'm running:
win98se,
duron 700,
256mb crucial ram,
geforce ddr

UPDATE: And I have the latest and greatest Via 4 in 1's installed. I even had this problem in Win2K.

did you install the via 4in1 drivers? right after installing your os?

i had the same problem, had to set both to "PIO MODE 4" in the bios to get DMA to work in Windows.

Its working, DVD looks great and I can burn cd's without the system locking up. Thanks.
